3 Operating Systems, 1 Pocket
The brilliance of the NexPhone lies in its flexibility. It isn’t forcing you to abandon your mobile ecosystem to get desktop productivity.
- On the go: It operates as a standard, bloatware-free Android 16 smartphone. You get all your standard mobile apps, banking, and communications exactly as you expect them.
- At the desk (The Linux Route): If you are a developer or IT professional, you can launch Debian Linux with full GPU acceleration directly from Android. It shares the same file system, allowing you to instantly switch from answering a Slack message on mobile to compiling code on a desktop monitor.
- At the desk (The Windows Route): If your enterprise relies on Microsoft, you can physically reboot the device into a dedicated Windows 11 partition.
Nex Computer even built a custom, grid-based “tile” UI for Windows 11 when you are using it strictly as a phone—a nostalgic and highly functional nod to the beloved Windows Phone era.
The Hardware Strategy
Priced at an incredibly reasonable $549, the NexPhone doesn’t bother competing with $1,200 gaming phones. Instead, it is built like a rugged enterprise tool.
It features a 6.58-inch 120Hz display, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of base storage (crucially, with a MicroSD slot for cheap expansion).
However, the most interesting choice is the processor. Rather than using the latest mobile gaming chip, Nex opted for the Qualcomm QCM6490. Why? Because it is an enterprise-grade IoT chip specifically designed for long-term stability and unmatched multi-OS support. Qualcomm guarantees support for this silicon well into the 2030s.
